Get Involved with AAUP-OSU
We welcome all OSU employees doing instructional or research work. That includes tenure-line and non-tenure-line faculty, and all OSU staff and students doing faculty-like work (instruction or research). We encourage you to deepen your engagement according to your ability and interest. Here is how you can do that.

1
Maintain your Membership
Dues are shared material power that can promote our democratically decided aims, enabling us to speak out, coordinate strategy, and fight against increasing encroachments on our work. By becoming a dues-paying member with AAUP national, you not only help build this power in our OSU chapter and our Ohio state-wide AAUP conference, but also across the country.

While you do not need to be a member to participate in our AAUP-OSU events, membership entitles you to voting privileges in our local chapter and makes you a member of the Ohio state AAUP conference. To promote affordability, we do not charge local chapter dues.

Then please fill out this form to let us know, at the local level, that you have joined. We will put you on our membership list right away.
2
Stay Informed and Spread the Word
We hold regular chapter meetings during the school year. Try to attend. If you are on our membership mailing list, we'll send you the most important updates about what is happening around campus and in Ohio. We'll share actions you can take, like signing petitions and testifying at the statehouse, to assist in protecting academic freedom at OSU. You can also follow us on social media and check back here at our website for updates.

Once you're up to speed, be sure to spread this information to your colleagues. You can put a poster on your office door or across your building, wear AAUP-OSU swag around campus, and make announcements at faculty meetings, via email, or via one-on-one conversations. Be sure that other faculty in your department and college are aware of the work AAUP-OSU is doing and encourage them to become members too.
3
Join an AAUP-OSU Committee
If you've already done the above and you have capacity and interest in doing more, consider joining one of our committees. This is where the heavy lifting gets done. We need members like you to provide leadership for the chapter. You can review the list of our committees here. The page provides an email address for each committee. Feel free to reach out to multiple committees to learn more and find out what's the best fit for you.
4
Make a Donation to the AAUP-OSU Chapter
As noted above, to be as welcoming and inclusive as possible, the AAUP-OSU chapter does not collect local dues. However, we invite members to make donations when they are able. Even small donations can help. Donations help to cover the ongoing costs of maintaining our online platforms (e.g., Zoom), planning social events, and other initiatives the board deems useful in our quest to protect academic freedom on campus. You can make a donation here.
