About
The American Association of University Professors chapter at The Ohio State University (AAUP-OSU) is the advocacy chapter for OSU faculty across all ranks. We strive to ensure just working conditions and promote values of institutional transparency, academic freedom, and shared governance. Our organization is also active in reclaiming higher education as an affordable and equitable public good. We welcome alliances with staff and students working toward similar goals.
Affiliated with the national AAUP, the Ohio Conference AAUP, or OCAAUP (the statewide association of chapters), and AFT/AAUP Local 6741, our chapter responds in depth to conditions local to the OSU campus. We are not a formal union, but we firmly believe in the power of collective action, coalition-building, and shared information. Our actions and events strengthen individuals and groups through mutual support.
The Board
Our diverse team represents various departments across campus, ensuring that every voice is heard. Notably, we have reserved positions for our past president and a non-tenure track representative, highlighting our commitment to diversity and representation. Together, we work towards fostering a supportive academic community.
Our Work
The work of the AAUP-OSU chapter occurs primarily through our board, our chapter meetings, and and our committees. These are our active committees, though we sometimes form ad-hoc committees for special initiatives. Members are encouraged to reach out to committees if they have an interest in joining the work of that committee.
Committee A
This committee promotes the principles of academic freedom, tenure, and due process on OSU's campus.
Communications
This committee is responsible for maintining our communications with the public, and the media.
Legislative
This committee tracks federal and state legistlation impacting OSU faculty and University Senate matters of importance.
Membership
This committee is responsible for building an engaged chapter membership with increasing size and influence.
Non-Tenure Track
This committee organizes initiatives on behalf of the chapter that attend specifically to the needs of NTT faculty.
